Bruce Alger - President & General Manager

Bruce Alger was awarded the positions of President and General Manager of New Market Rebels Baseball in the middle of the Rebels 2001 season. He previously served as General Manager in 1981 when he lead the Rebels to a runner-up finish in the Valley League Championship series. Bruce has been a member of the Rebels organization since 1965 and has served in every available position within the organization over that span. He has also served as the "Voice of the Rebels" for 30 years and has been behind the microphone for over 700 Rebel home games. He will continue in that capacity again this year. Bruce did take some time off away from the organization in the late 1980's and early 1990's but continued to support the team and rarely missed a game during that time.

Bruce divides his time as evenly as possible throughout the community and is a member of the New Market Chamber of Commerce as well as a past recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Presidents Award for outstanding community service. The New Market Chamber of Commerce gave Bruce their Citizen of the Year award for 2009. Bruce has also been selected to serve on the Town of New Market Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and the New Market Volunteer Fire Department Financial Control Board. He has served as Council President for Reformation Lutheran Church in New Market, where he is a lifetime member, sings in the choir, and continues to serve on the Crisis Committee, the Finance Committee, the Mutual Ministry Committee, the Social Ministry committee as well as serving as Assistant Minister and as Chairperson of the Worship, Music And The Arts Committee. Bruce is a member of the New Market Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 4264 and is also involved as a volunteer coach for the Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation Department youth basketball program as well as the Mt. Jackson/New Market Little League. In November of 2009 Bruce was elected Executive Vice President of the Valley Baseball League. He also is a member of the Grandstand Managers Fan Club, a support group of New Market Rebels Baseball. Finally, Bruce is the Head Coach of the New Market entry in the Fall Babe Ruth League.

Lynne Alger, Bruce's wife, serves as Secretary/Treasurer of New Market Rebels Baseball. She also supervises the management of the General Lee Concession Stand and the Rebel Yell Souvenir Store. Bruce and Lynne reside in New Market and live adjacent to Rebel Park, their "Field of Dreams".
