 C. J. Rhodes      





C.J. Rhodes enters his first season as the Head Coach of the New Market Rebels.

Rhodes is currently the lead assistant-recruiting coordinator for Randolph-Macon College, along with Head Coach Ray Hedrick, who just completed his eighth year at the helm of the R-MC program.  Rhodes will lead all recruiting efforts, while assisting Hedrick in all phases of the Yellow Jacket program including on the field instruction, conditioning, academic affairs as well as R-MC Baseball Camps.

Rhodes arrived in Ashland after spending the last two years on Paul Keyes' staff at nearby VCU.  While with the Rams, his primary focus was coaching the team's hitters and catchers, as well assisting with daily administrative duties.  Additionally, Rhodes served as the director for Rams Baseball Camps, which is associated with PAKCAMP, Inc.  During his tenure at VCU, Rhodes helped guide three players into the professional ranks, Blake Hauser (Seattle), Kyle Haynes (Pirates), Kyle Pelchy (Rays).

In addition to his duties as an assistant with VCU,  Rhodes was also privileged to coach 3rd Base and work with the hitters for the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods League. 

In Wisconsin, Rhodes was fortunate to coach draft picks Tyler Nurdin (Cleveland Indians), Tyler Heineman (Houston Astros), Carlos Escobar Jr.(Chicago Cubs).

The Williamsburg,Va., native played for four years at ODAC member Division III Virginia Wesleyan College, where he earned all-conference and all-region recognition during both his junior and senior seasons.  


A 2005 graduate of Lafayette High School, Rhodes earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Virginia Wesleyan in 2009.

 





Mike Hartz

                         





Mike Hartz is in his first year as an assistant to head coach Chris Francis. Hartz arrives from Mansfield University (PA) where he had an outstanding career as a third baseman for the Mounties.

A two-year captain at Mansfield where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Hartz garnered All-League honors from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) as a junior in 2010 when he was furthermore named a Rawlings Regional Gold Glove honoree. He also recorded a team-leading 54 RBI to go with 19 doubles that year, the sixth highest single-season mark in school annals, and was named the PSAC Player of the Week for the period ending April 19, 2010 after he batted .517 with 17 RBI, a .543 on-base percentage and five runs scored.

Hartz, who helped lead Mansfield to two PSAC Tournament appearances and an NCAA Tournament berth, made 137 consecutive starts to conclude his career.

                        



Jeff Jefferson





   Jeff Jeffereson begins his first year with the Rebels as an assistant coach. Jeff  joined the Concord baseball staff in July 2011.As the top assistant to head coach Andrew Wright, Jefferson main duties encompass being CU’s hitting/catching coach and camp coordinator. Jefferson also assists with recruiting efforts and oversees other day-to-day aspects of the Mountain Lion program.
Jefferson begins his coaching career after a four-year playing career at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.

Jeff has prior experience in the Valley Baseball League as a team volunteer and player for the Luray Wranglers.



Peter Buscaino



    Peter Buscaino enters his first season as the Volunteer Assistant Coach for the New Market Rebels. Buscaino is currently in his third year as a Student Manager for the University of Central Florida Knights baseball program under Head Baseball Coach Terry Rooney. Buscaino has assisted with the Knight's defense for the past two seasons and has been privileged to accompany them in back to back NCAA Regional appearances. In addition to his duties as a Student Manager, Buscaino also assists with the Terry Rooney Top Prospect Exposure Camps and has worked as a Baseball Scout for The Perfect Game.

    A 2009 graduate of Clearwater High School, Buscaino is currently working towards his Bachelor's Degree in Business and Social Sciences as well as a Minor in Coaching









Head Athletic Trainer

Abigail Hansberger

Abbie returns for her tenth season as Head Athletic Trainer for the Rebels

Abbie is completing her first year as Head Athletic Trainer at Strasburg High School.  Prior to working at SHS, she was employed as a clinical athletic trainer for Sentara Careplex Hospital’s Rehab Services.  Abbie has also been the Director of First Aid for the Paul Webb All-Star Basketball Team Camp held every July in Richmond, VA.  In 2006, she was a member of the Athletic Training Staff for the Cornerstone Bancard Hula Bowl held in Honolulu, HI. 

Abbie is a graduate of Bridgewater College and holds a Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training.  She resides in Strasburg, VA.
