Rebels PR Director Austin Gisriel and Technical Advisor Al Smith recently went on a Spring Training pilgrimage and met up with several former and at least one current New Market Rebel. You can read about their adventures on Austin's blog here: http://austingisriel.com.
Congratulations are extended to a couple of our former Rebels:
Jordan Walton ('09) has signed on to play with the Class A Peoria Chiefs. The Chiefs are a minor league affiliate of the Saint Louis Cardinals. Read the story here: JWal
Jordan Owen ('10) will be playing in the Pecos League this summer with the Roswell Invaders. Owen also coaches the varsity baseball team at Union City HS in Union City, TN. You can follow Jordan's season here: J.Owen
Pitcher Chad Kuhl is named by Baseball America as the VBL Top Prospect of 2012:
"Chad Kuhl, rhp, New Market, (Jr., Delaware): Kuhl showed average to above-average velocity this summer with his four-seam fastball, working in the 90-93 range. His fastball is sometimes flat and straight, and he'll need to improve that pitch to enhance his draft potential next June. Kuhl employs a short, quick delivery and a three-quarters slot. His second pitch is a 79-82 curve with late 11-to-5 break. He also shows an 82-84 changeup with below-average depth. Kuhl's control for New Market was greatly improved over his spring season for Delaware, when he went 5-5, 4.42 with 64 strikeouts and 36 walks in 77 innings. In 41 Valley innings, he went 4-0, 1.11 with 39 strikeouts and 17 walks, holding hitters to a .167 average."

Many young men have spent summers in New Market playing for the Rebels. Though we look forward to every season, we also enjoy looking back and remembering the boys who played so hard and have given us so many warm nights of summer baseball. The Rebels extend an open invitation for any and all alumni to come back to Rebel Park for a visit.
Independence Day weekend is a popular and event packed weekend and popular with many when choosing a time to visit. There will be a team and family picnic prior to the home game and all alumni are welcome to attend.
The weekend also features an old timer's (or "no-timers") BP in the morning where fans and former players will take turns hitting the ball (or trying to) and also practicing fly ball shagging skills. 2012 date & time TBA
Stay tuned for a team sponsored activity. The board of directors is working diligently to create a special Independence Day celebration for players, family, fans, and staff. Check back for details!
The annual Mo Weber golf tournament takes place during the July 4th weekend--the 2012 date & time is TBA . All Rebel alumni, current Rebels, and families are invited to take part. Contact Charlie Dodge (477-9542) to register your foursome.
